Crips Gang Members

Uniforms play a big part in gang culture, and although it may not be so prescriptive as a blazer, shirt and tie, the members of said gangs all wear the same sort of thing as a show of allegiance. It allows other gang members, both friendlies and enemies, to identify each other. I’m sure it also gives gang members a sense of belonging.

Bloods Gang Members

The Crips and Bloods are two rival gangs, known for having violent fights and disputes. They are also equally well known for their colours - the Crips wear blue, whilst the Bloods wear red, and if you are caught wearing red in a Crips neighourhood (or vice versa), you are as good as dead. I find this such strong association between uniform and gang very interesting.

In the UK the gang 'uniforms' are a little bit more lowkey, however they are no less relevant, and are no less effective in terms of creating a sense of intimidation.

these images are taken from a vice articale about gangs around the outside of Liverpool, where the average age of the gangs is 15 years old.

their uniform, known as 'Lowies', consists of black jackets, often made by Alpine Lowe, all black Reebok Classics, black hats and facemasks. Ridgeback bikes are also pretty popular.
